12 Terriers score in win over Wildcats

BF prepares for 12th game of the season

The Terriers depth was on full display in their Monday contest with the Twin Valley Wildcats, as all 12 players scored, including five in double figures on their way to a 99-35 win on Monday evening in Whitingham.

“Saw some good minutes out of everyone tonight,” said Coach Evan Chadwick. “Just gotta say, Pete Kamel was an animal on the glass for us, it’s great to see him get paid.”

The Terriers jumped out on a 16-2 run and led 25-11 after the first. Jonathan Terry hit a pull-up, Owen LaRoss finished inside in transition and Pat Barbour had two drop-steps for easy buckets.

The Terriers kept the defensive pressure on in the second, fueling their transition offense that allowed them to hit the 50 point mark by halftime.

Terry and Kamel attack glass

“I liked the ball movement, said Chadwick. “The guys’ heads were up, which allowed us to move the ball up the floor quicker. It’s what this team’s about.”

The second half belonged to the bigs, as they pounded the offensive glass. Peter Kamel was a force, grabbing six on the O-glass resulting in 8 of his 10 points. Jaxon Clark added a crafty up-and-under and another mid-range , while LaRoss stepped out to hit an authorized 3, much to the delight of the Terrier bench.

LaRoss led the scoring with 18 points, Pat Barbour, Johnathan Terry and Jackson Goodell followed with 12 and Peter Kamel and Jamison Nystrom added 10.

The win puts BF at 9-3 on the season. They have little time to savor, as they are back on the road Wednesday, February 9th, when they face off with Springfield. JV tips at 5:30 and Varsity at 7pm.

“We need to have a great practice to be ready for that one,” said Chadwick.

Terriers respond with emphatic win over Chieftains

If there was any worry about how the Terriers would respond after their tough loss to undefeated Rivendell, those worries were quickly put to bed. The Terriers led the division 3 boys basketball contest wire to wire against the Green Mountain Chieftains, earning their 8th win of the season 80-53 at Holland Gym.

“What a response,” said Coach Chadwick. “We talked before the game about how we needed to play loose, enjoy ourselves and be in the moment. From the opening tip, these young men took that message to heart.”

Center Owen LaRoss started the Terriers off by hitting two free-throws. After GM answered with two freebies of their own, Jack Cravinho stepped into a corner three off a Jamison Nystrom assist to give the Terriers a 5-2 lead. Cravinho would then steal a Chieftain pass and, off another Nystrom dime, hit a straight-way 3 to extend the Terriers lead to 6.

“It was great to see Jack get going,” said Chadwick. “He stepped his effort up big time on both sides of the ball.”

Cravinho runs the break

Nystrom would add another 3 and Jonathan Terry would hit a pull-up from the corner in transition to extend the Terrier lead to 8.

After Green Mountain hit successive buckets, forward Jake Moore scored 6 straight points off of offensive rebounds and the Terriers closed the first leading 25-16.

“Jake came in and immediately made an impact,” said Chadwick. “He has worked so hard this season, it’s great seeing that work pay off.”

Moore was a beast on the O-glass

The Terriers had numerous chances in the second to extend their lead, but a 3-10 showing from the charity stripe kept Green Mountain within 15 at halftime 43-28.

The Terriers came out after the break and immediately took control of the contest. Jackson Goodell scored the first four points, Nystrom drew a charge, LaRoss scored an inside hoop and Goodell capped the run with a corner three that saw the Terriers lead balloon to 23 midway through the third.

“That sealed it,” said Chadwick. “That run was based on defensive energy and transition.”

JT earns a seat next to Coach Chadwick 🙂

Jonathan Terry led the Terriers with 19 points. Jamison Nystrom added 10 points and 9 assists and Jackson Goodell contributed 11 points.

BF now stands at 8-3. They next face off with Twin Valley in Whitingham on Monday with a 7pm tip.

BF’s comeback bid falls short in loss to Rivendell

Trailing by 17 points entering the fourth quarter, after Rivendell closed the frame on a 7-0 run, the Terriers backs were to the fence. Instead of folding, the purple and white battled hard, pulling to within 7 with 90 seconds remaining with the basketball. Unfortunately for the Terriers, the final shots simply would not fall and the Raptors of Rivendell escaped Holland gym with a 58-48 victory on Monday night.

“We let the moment take ahold of us too much early in the game,” stated Coach Evan Chadwick. “Give Rivendell all the credit, they are 12-0 for a reason. What I will take most out of this contest is that even though we didn’t play our best, we battled to the end. That will serve us well as we go down the stretch.”

Owen LaRoss was simply sensational for the Terriers on the evening, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 boards. Jamison Nystrom added 10 to the effort.

With the loss, the Terriers drop to 7-3 on the season. They are next in action Wednesday night as they face off with a streaking Green Mountain Chieftain squad, who has won 3 straight and now stand at 8-6.

“Should be a heck of a ball game,” said Chadwick.

Terriers answer call blast Phoenix

Adversity comes in all different forms, and the Terriers were face to face with it early in their contest against the Sharon Academy Phoenix on Monday evening when they trailed by 3 points midway through the first. Luckily, the senior-laden Terriers squad answered the call, exploiting their size and strength in dominating the offensive glass in the final three frames to take the 77-32 victory.

“I was nervous coming into the contest about how the boys would respond after I gave them the weekend off,” said Coach Evan Chadwick. “It’s amazing how fast rust can accumulate in this game, and the rust certainly showed its ugly face early.”

Jonathan Terry would get the Terriers off to a solid start with a finger-roll off a Colby Dearborn assist that had the Terriers take an early lead.

Sharon would respond with a 5-0 run on a corner three and a turnaround jumper, that gave them the lead 3 minutes into the contest. After Pat Barbour hit a free throw and then rebounded his own miss for another bucket, Sharon went on another 5-0 run to reclaim the lead at 10-9.

The Terriers stretched the lead to five on a Walker James pull-up and had opportunities to extend the lead even further after Bellows Falls turned Sharon over on successive possessions. However, each of Bellows Falls’ fast break attempts resulted in turnovers that allowed Sharon to enter the second quarter trailing by just 5.

“We have to clean up those little things that will make a big difference,” stated Chadwick. I think our defensive intensity picked up in the second four minutes, but we couldn’t turn it into points.”

Seniors Jack Cravinho and Jackson Goodell pressed the BF advantage to eight on a Cravinho trey off a Goodell dish after he saved a loose ball.

The Terriers would then rattle off 20 straight points. Nystrom finished an and-1, Owen LaRoss handled a tough pass and finished inside in transition, and Jonathan Terry converted a reverse layup during the stretch, that saw the Terriers race out to a 36-10 advantage at half-time.

The Terriers cruised in the second half, expanding their lead to 30 early and never letting Sharon back to under the 30 point threshold the remainder of the game.

“We found our legs,” stated Chadwick. “When we do that, all five on the floor can score points in bunches.”

In total 11 players scored for the 7-2 Terriers, led by LaRoss with 13.

The purple and white face a huge challenge on Saturday, as 10-0 Rivendell travels to town. JV, who won their third game in a row on Monday and take a 3-1 record into the contest, tips at 1pm. Varsity follows at 2:30.
