CHESTER- At times it was less then pretty, at other times, it was downright ugly. Nevertheless, the Terriers’ Boys Basketball Team gutted out a 58-39 win against Green Mountain on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Green Mountain Holiday Tournament.
“This contest was everything we could have expected,” said Head Coach, Evan Chadwick. “Things did not go right early for us, but our toughness shown through.”
Green Mountain would lead by as many as nine early in the second quarter at 17-8. However, the Purple and White would end the half on a 20-3 run, capped by a Walker James pull up 3 at the buzzer that had the Terriers race to locker room leading 28-20.
“Big shot by Walk,” said Chadwick. “That trey took the wind right out of GM’s sails.”
The Terriers would slowly extend their lead in the second half, thanks to a combination of dribble penetration and offensive rebounds. Colby Dearborn found his touch, dropping 3 three pointers in the second half on his way to a career high 22 point performance. Jamison Nystrom dished out several dimes to the Terrier bigs (Jake Moore, Pete Kamel and Cole Moore) down low for easy buckets and the Terriers’ press wore down the Chieftains, granting the Terriers their first win of the season and a rematch with Mount St. Joseph in the championship round.
Tip time is slated for 7:20. For those fans who cannot make the trip, the game can also be watched live on NFHSnetwork.com.
