BELLOWS FALLS-The Bellows Falls boys basketball team won their fifth straight on Friday night besting Mill River 75-40.
“Not the prettiest of games for us,” stated Coach Evan Chadwick. “I think there were times that Mill River outworked us. We got away with it tonight, but I made it clear to the guys in the locker room, that we will not be able to afford those lapses in the future.”
Mill River would grab an early lead in this contest 8-3, thanks to second chance opportunities that turned into back to back baskets. The Terriers would answer, rattling off 5 straight points off a Goodell corner jumper and two offensive rebound put backs by Pat Barbour, and Jonathan Terry, that gave the Terriers their first lead 11-8.
The Terriers would extend their lead to 7 at 15-8 after the first quarter.
Jamison Nystrom would get Bellows Falls off and running in the second, hitting a straight-away 3 to extend the Terrier lead to 10. Despite shutting the Minutemen out for over 4 minutes, the Terriers could not gain much separation, thanks to some turnovers and missed bunnies.
“It was real sloppy at times, especially in the second quarter,” says Chadwick. “We could not find the outlet and their zone defense was causing us some trouble. Luckily, our defense gave us the edge we needed until our offense found its footing.”

Jaxon Clark and Jesse Darrell, with their first minutes of the contest came in an immediately gave the Terriers a spark. A Darrell theft and dish to Clark gave the Terriers a 13 point lead at 24-11. After Mill River cut the deficit to 10, Darrell stole another pass and converted it himself to start a late 8-0 run for the Terriers that put them firmly in control at 36-18 at the break.

“That run at the end of the half was the ball game,” says Chadwick. “Clark, Darrell and Nystrom fueled it and it was huge.”
The Terriers left little doubt as to the outcome, opening on a 7-0 run capped by an Owen LaRoss inside hoop and the Terriers were able to mix and match with rotations the rest of the way to go to 6-2 on the season.
The Terriers had 10 players in the scoresheet, led by Terry with 13, Nystrom 11 and Barbour 10.
The Terriers have a short weekend break before they face Sharon Academy at 7pm on Monday.
