RUTLAND- The Red Raiders raced out to a 14-0 advantage and were able to keep the Colonels at arms length the entirety of the game on their way to a 59-40 victory on Wednesday night at Rutland High School.
“Tough one tonight,” stated Coach Evan Chadwick. “I think it took a little while for the boys to get going and when they did, it was too late.”
Rutland was able to pound the ball inside early and their press forced the Colonels into 8 first quarter turnovers. Despite their struggles offensively the Colonels were able to narrow the lead to 9 at the end of the first and were down just 12 at halftime.
There was hope for the Colonels early in the 3rd as Tristain Evans hit two threes to narrow the lead to as little as 8. However, Rutland was too good on this night, as they were able to stretch the lead to 20 by the end of the quarter and cruised in the fourth to serve up the Colonels their first and only loss of the season.
“What a great season these young men had,” stated Coach Chadwick. They all came to work every practice and every game. Of course we are all upset about our result today, but the character that was shown by this squad all season will last far longer than any single game could.”
The Colonels end their season at 8-1.
